雷の昼寝

On July 6th, 2024, a powerful thunderstorm swept through Suginami, Tokyo, creating an atmosphere both intense and strangely serene. This series, later compiled into the photobook 雷の昼寝 (The Nap of Thunder), captures the paradox of that day—the storm’s strength clashing with an eerie calm. Despite the flashes of lightning and the weight of the clouds, the thunder was subdued, like the quiet, rhythmic snoring of a sleeping giant.Through these images, I wanted to evoke the sensation of witnessing nature in a state of rest, where even in its fury, it feels like a brief pause—a moment of silence in the chaos. 雷の昼寝 is not just about the storm itself, but about the quiet moments that live within the power of nature, reminding us that even the most violent forces can have a peaceful side.
